SMC Physicians Brings Free Health Screenings to Atlantic City for World Homeless Day

SMC Physicians Brings Free Health Screenings to Atlantic City for World Homeless Day

At SMC Physicians, caring for our community extends beyond the walls of our medical offices.

On October 10, 2026, our physicians, leadership team, staff, and community volunteers came together at City Center Park in Atlantic City to provide free health screenings in recognition of World Homeless Day.

Organized in collaboration with the City of Atlantic City, the event brought healthcare services and community resources directly to individuals and families who may face barriers to accessing the care and support they need.

Bringing Healthcare Directly to the Community

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees were able to receive free health screenings, enjoy a meal, and connect with organizations offering assistance with housing, healthcare, and public benefits.

For individuals experiencing homelessness or facing financial and transportation challenges, accessing routine healthcare can be difficult. Bringing services into a familiar, accessible community setting creates an opportunity for people to connect with medical professionals and resources they might otherwise struggle to reach.

The event also reflected the importance of meeting people where they are and recognizing that access to healthcare is closely connected to broader community needs.

A Community Effort Led by SMC Physicians and Atlantic City

The initiative was coordinated by our SMC Physicians founders Dr. Tamim Naber, Dr. Samar Bursheh, and Dr. Omar Shahateet, alongside Director of Operations Dr. Sara Tadros, in partnership with the City of Atlantic City.

Ahead of the event, Dr. Naber joined Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. at a City Hall press conference to discuss the initiative and SMC’s commitment to supporting local residents.

Mayor Small recognized the collaboration between SMC Physicians and the City’s Health and Human Services Department in making the event possible.

The effort also brought together city representatives, community organizations, and volunteers, including Catholic Charities of South Jersey and JW Pathways Transitional Living.

Together, participants helped make healthcare screenings and other essential resources available in one convenient location.

Our Team Coming Together to Give Back

Beyond the medical screenings, the day was an opportunity for members of our SMC Physicians team to come together around a shared commitment to community service.

Staff members volunteered their time to help organize screening stations, coordinate activities, prepare supplies, and support attendees throughout the event.

The initiative also welcomed participation from churches, friends, families, and other community volunteers, reflecting the collective effort behind the day’s activities.

In preparation for the event, our team also conducted outreach to shelters, low-income housing communities, and community centers throughout Atlantic City to help raise awareness and encourage residents to participate.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time and energy to making the event possible.

Healthy People Build Stronger Communities

At SMC Physicians, we believe that healthy people build stronger communities.

World Homeless Day provided an important opportunity to put that belief into action by supporting individuals who may face significant challenges accessing healthcare and other essential services.

While the October 10 event was a single day of community outreach, the need for accessible, compassionate healthcare continues throughout the year.

We are proud to have worked alongside the City of Atlantic City, participating organizations, and our dedicated volunteers to support this effort.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this initiative to life and to the Atlantic City community for welcoming us.

We look forward to continuing to serve South Jersey communities through both our medical services and opportunities to give back.
